Hospitals Conserve Water, while Prices Increase

A new survey released by Grumman/Butkus Associates found that hospitals across the country may be conserving more water, but they might not be saving any money. The 2017 Hospital Energy and Water Benchmarking Survey focused on resource usage trends and costs for healthcare facilities in 2016 had some interesting findings when it comes to water and sewer usage.

The survey found the water and sewer usage by hospitals is about 48 gallons per square foot per year compared to about 70 gallons per square foot per year in 2008. While that’s good news for hospitals the water and sewer prices are not. [1] Prices climbed from 24 cents per square foot in 2007 to 42 cents per square foot in 2018. [2] These prices are only expected to continue to increase due to rising water infrastructure costs.
